Poems are remarkable for touching our hearts and souls.
They capture our emotions in words, connecting us deeper to ourselves, from sunny days of happiness to moments of unfathomable grief that hold you like you can’t breathe.
I’ve titled this post ‘Poems I Am Free’ because we are free, despite what our minds tell us otherwise.
So for today, let’s explore the essence of freedom through poetry, reflecting on the themes of life and love.
Poems I Am Free: The Path of Life
Life is a journey – a path of sorts laid out for us.
Along this path, we encounter good friends, wonderful family, and great times, yet we also face difficult times and troubled thoughts on a daily basis.
Yet it’s through these experiences (I believe) that we find freedom’s true meaning (hint: You get to define what freedom means to you…)
For me, change is freedom, no matter how tiny. I know it’s scary, but it’s freeing when you make that change!

Smiles and Happy Days
As we wade through life, the afterglow of smiles and happy memories illuminate our minds. We share our joys and create happier times with loved ones. How beautiful when you really think about it! This is life! It’s everything.
Moments like these are what life is all about.

So here’s my thoughts, straight up. I find it way too much pressure to think “as big as we feel we need to think” AKA to “make the most” of our mere 80 or so years on this planet; this is a familiar message we’re bombarded with daily. (Social media, I’m talking to you!)
To me, freedom lies in the mundane. The ordinary. The day-to-day.
What about you? Have you ever thought about it before? This poem below may make you think a little. Take your time with it…

Times of Sorrow
Inevitably, we all face times of sorrow.
The air of grief during a funeral service or memorial service can be heavy. However, poems provide solace, reminding us of the “close of the day” and “sunshine of tomorrow.”
I wrote this poem for a dear friend who lost her husband suddenly.
I couldn’t speak it out loud to her through pain for her loss (I’m an empath and was in bits myself), so I gave it to her in a card instead. I wish I had more courage in circumstances like this, I admit.

Reflection
Before I sleep at night, I spend a few moments reflecting on the day’s highs and lows.
It somehow helps me get a good night’s rest, settling my mind (she tends to get overly stimulated after working on the computer late!).
Often, if I don’t know what to reflect on or my brain draws a blank, I read a beautiful poem to put my mind to rest, focusing on the present moment. This is one of my favorites:

Simple things
The more complicated life “seems” to get (note the quotation marks there), the more I rely on simplicity.
A lovely thing to do is a brain dump if things overwhelm you, or perhaps a glance up at starry nights when the weather allows, to ground you at the moment where you are now.
It’s a perfect joy when you really get into the present moment.
Not many of us are there, but I guarantee the more you bring yourself back to the present, the happier you’ll be.

Greetings, dear one. Thank you for reading my poetry and musings. I hope you enjoy this post. Please comment below if you do, and share it with friends.
