Surely, we all need a little encouragement from time to time. Perhaps a mood-boosting song or a gorgeous, warm-hearted book to read.
Or, I dunno, a partner who says, “You look AMAZING!”
Wouldn’t it be lovely? I think so. Yet, while it’s great to think like that, it’s even better to give yourself the encouragement you need.
To believe so firmly in your own resolve that nothing shakes you—not your child’s tantrum or that work challenge or that relationship fallout—nothing!
If you’re with me still reading, I wrote all the poems in this post for women just like you.
Perhaps you’re feeling deflated or struggling with something? Or unsure what to think or do or what the next step should be?
This is for you. See it as a virtual support post in a blog. AKA I’m right here with you, albeit virtually.
Encouraging Poems For Her
As a woman, I know firsthand how challenging life can be. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless.
Things like the news; it creeps in, and fear that spreads like wildfire infiltrates our lives through a TV screen.
It’s partly why I believe so vehemently in the power of poetry to detach, recentre, inspire, and lift us all—both when reading and writing it.
I do hope you find encouragement in the poems in this post.
If you do, I’d love to hear from you. Please comment below and share this post with your friends.
Strength in Poetry
One of poetry’s most powerful elements is its ability to capture complex emotions and experiences in just a few whimsical words.
Reading a poem that speaks to your life situation can be incredibly validating and empowering when you’re feeling down.
Perhaps you’re a woman who is susceptible to the fake, manicured, filtered women we see on our feeds? I think you’ll appreciate this poem if so 🙂
Celebrating Resilience: A Kind Word Indeed
Another way poetry empowers women is by helping us celebrate our resilience. And damn, are we resilient!
Yet when we’ve overcome obstacles or faced adversity, it’s usually easier to focus on the negative aspects of our experiences—to moan and groan, to put it bluntly.
On the flip side, poetry helps us see our struggles in a new light and appreciate the strength we’ve gained from them. Everything is perspective, after all.
You perhaps know (if you know me personally), that my husband had a near-death accident 18 months ago, going from perfectly healthy to instantly paralyzed, face down in the sea in less than one second.
I witnessed everything and was the one to drag him out and bring him back.
I feel tremendous gratitude that I did act, move, and run as fast as my legs would go, and bring him back (literally).
There is an appreciation of bravery and resilience within me for myself here. It’s a gentle grace I give to me, and that’s helped me process the event significantly. Some experts might call it ACT or acceptance and commitment therapy.
I call it giving yourself a massive high five!
I wrote this poem below for us – me and him- to celebrate that we are still together despite the odds.
Inspiring Poems
Make It A Beautiful Day
As a lover of the topic of love (excuse the mouthful there!), being listened to is very important to me.
I feel that when I’m listened to, I’m held. I’m validated.
Of course, this can be challenging. Life is busy, the days fly by, and men are men. Which is where poetry found me.
Poetry holds me. It’s a great way to convey emotions without being judged unless I splash it all over social media, which I sometimes do 🙂
I write poems regularly when a silent night allows me to. Sometimes they’re inspirational poems, other times love poems, short poems, words of wisdom – that sort of thing.
Such things make my beautiful life seem deeper than the somewhat transactional or superficial digital world we all live in.
Proverbs 14:30 says, “A tranquil heart is life to the body,” and I couldn’t agree more.
Here are a few short verses of my own to help lift your spirits.
Inspiration For Daily Life
Poems for Personal Growth
As I navigate life, I find having a stable mindset is super important.
But let me be clear here. I’ve invested thousands over the years in courses and whatnot – time and money – only to find myself back at square one many a time. So, I guess I’m saying it’s not easy to develop such a mindset.
Yet encouraging poems remind me to keep pushing forward and never give up on my ideals. A poem such as this one.
Overcoming Challenges
Verses for Tough Times
Staying positive and moving forward can be challenging when life throws rocks at you.
Yet encouraging poems can help us through difficult times, believe me!
One such poem is “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. She’s one of my all-time favorite authors and somewhat of a role model for me; hence, I mention her quite a lot.
Fun fact: I write the best poems (I think!) when I’m having a hard time (!) It’s like a catharsis for me. Saying that – a beautiful morning can equally be an inspiration for a beautiful poem! Every moment has its opportunity.
Joy and Happiness
Capturing Moments of Delight
While searching for ‘encouraging poems for her’ in my backlog of a decade of writing poetry aka my Google doc (lol), I came across many perfectly captured moments of delight from when my babies were tiny.
These poems are perfect for reminding moms of the little things in life that bring happiness and joy.
A Better Tomorrow
I’ll end this post by saying that gratitude for the present moment is a true healing tool.
As we all have, I’ve experienced trauma and heartbreak, yet gratitude banishes that in a second. With the reach of my arms, I can grab hold of things I’m grateful for literally, and I can’t help but show my happy smile as a result.
I’m grateful for tangible things, like family members or my garden. Others, such as love or joy, are feelings, yet I’m equally grateful for them. After all, gratitude is what makes a great day great!
I invite you to start being grateful for whatever life brings you, for you can choose to see it as a growth opportunity OR the opposite, from a clouded window that gets you nowhere.
Choose growth! Choose optimism. Always.
