( a letter to a little boy about to become a big brother )
I sit at my kitchen table typing this to you Far too young to read this But soon it will be yours We are expecting the arrival of your baby brother I am a wreck, imagining how it’s going to be In tears I am, writing this To me, you were only born yesterday You’re still a baby boy So how can I love another in equal measure? I want you to know B, you’ve taught me what love is. I have never loved another like I love you Watching your quirks, your adorable smile Your little swagger as you walk You are every bit adorable. No questions asked I hope I am being good to you, darling boy My confidence in this wavers - I question a lot What did I do to deserve a beautiful treasure as you? Where did you come from? How are you with us? I can’t imagine the first moment you set eyes on him Will you smile or frown? Will you be happy or confused? If you cry I won’t bear it. Please don’t little man. Please be strong so I can be strong too. Know I’ll always be here, I’ll never leave you. I’m always your mummy, because I chose you, and you chose me.
