( a poem for the first baby, the one who made you a mother )
I’d give everything to go back
Really I would
To snuggle and sniff your head once again
As a baby, held tightly in my arms
I used to think this would last forever
That you’d stay a baby forever
But you didn’t
You haven’t
You’re a boy now, and there’s two of you
So my time is split in two
But make no mistake, you were my first
And that birthed me as a mother
