The Ultimate Goal of Life
Wowza, no pressure on me to answer THAT question! The ultimate goal of life?
I’m with you here, rolling around on this planet of ours without a clue.
Only, well, I have my version of the answer. My answer for the ultimate goal of life.
Lovely reader, let me take you on a journey, if you will.
In my grand old 30 something years of being on this earth, I may well be wrong. Just a lil’ disclaimer before we dive in!
To Begin
To begin, take a deep breath.
Close your eyes and find your inner goodness. Shake off the day, lift your chin high, breathe in, out, and smile. Find your higher vibe.
That place where you’re at your best. Your good energy (or read this another time if your energy’s really off).
Here goes.
I think if you asked anyone at the top of their game what the ultimate goal of life is, they’ll tell you it’s to be happy.
Happiness – the ultimate goal?
It’s what we’re all after, when we browse the shopping malls and go click click click on A – mazon. We want to be happy.
It’s not about money, or fame, or power, or being a celebrity, or being rich. It’s about being happy.
Many people are driven by money and fame to some extent too but I think they’re missing the bigger picture.
On the whole, we want to be happy, which loosely translates into being joyful and content.
We want to smile. To enjoy life, and we want to enjoy other people.
We want to feel good about ourselves, and to be a source of joy for other people. Am I right?
All of which can be translated to a form of happiness.
What’s the problem?
Why are there higher rates of miserableness and dissatisfaction than ever before?
Indeed, there are numerous theories as to why.
The most common explanation is that we’re simply better at identifying those low feelings we sometimes have, thanks to awareness.
Again, many people would argue that we are more open and honest about sensitive topics that affect us compared to our grandparents’ generation.
Another factor is the rise of the internet, which provides a vast pool of information at our fingertips. Sometimes a godsend, sometimes a nightmare.
So here’s my big BUT.
Happiness is defined as, “The state of being happy”, which seems so obvious it gives you a stitch. It’s subjective. It’s vague. It’s blunt.
Where is the definition of happiness, which tells me how to be happy?
The answer is. There isn’t one!
You need to be the one to create your version of happiness.
Create Your Version Of Happiness
This is why, if you ask me, so many people are getting it wrong.
They’re looking at others to give them the answers on their own happiness.
They have not yet created what happiness is to them. To create means to “Bring something into existence”, meaning it wasn’t there before.
And so all the people you’re following and admiring and watching and everything else (hello social f*cking media), are in fact, wasting your precious time.
Because their version of happiness is not the same as yours!
Your happiness ultimately comes down to what do you value?
What do you want?
What can you do more of – to bring more happy feelings daily?
What are your passions/enjoyments? Do more of it! Do less of the stuff that drains you.
Start there, by getting straight with yourself and journaling the answers to those questions above (buy my journaling guide if you’re brand new to writing and need some pointers).
And to finish, if you wait for someone else to give you your version of happiness, you’re going to wait a very, very long time, and probably end up withered and old, regretting you never took action and created your version of what it means to be happy.
And that’s not what I want you to do.
So get out there, get real with yourself, and be the one to create your version of happiness.
Remember, you are the only one who can create that.
So that’s my answer to the ultimate goal of life. Happiness as defined by YOU!
