Are you one of those people who wonder’s where the day goes?
You wind up flaked out on the sofa, asking yourself “What did I do again?”
If so, I hear you! Here’s some handy mind hacks to help prevent this happening, so you can get stuff done.
Set an intention
People often struggle to get clear on what they need to do because they’ve not got a good enough reason to do it.
It’s amazing how productive we are when we’ve got a time limit for something, say a work deadline or a meeting with an important somebody. Or if we MUST do that one thing, because our livelihood depends on it.
Lost your job? You’d be rapidly searching online for a new one without a moments thought, wouldn’t you?
In contrast, if we’ve got nothing important on, we’re prone to wasting time, scrolling Insta or doing the opposite of what we need to do. We then end up bored and complacent.
Instead, mind hack this by choosing a firm goal for your day, your morning or the next hour. And focus on doing just that one thing.
If you’re anything like me, you’re more likely to get into action mode if you write stuff down. I use the Clever Fox Planner for my day-to-day bits and bobs, and honestly can’t live without it.
I go back to the vision board in it, which keeps me on track with my goals, and which I constantly add to depending on my mood that day.
Make your goals as clear and simple as possible, and your brain will help you achieve them.
As an example, you could set a goal to complete some important paperwork for the next hour. By setting the intention to do said paperwork, you’re ordering your brain to comply, and comply it will!
By the way, a goal doesn’t have to be huge. Small, seemingly pointless goals are just as valuable as big ass goals, which take years to achieve. Even if your goal is to mop the floor! Write it down.
If you struggle to think of goals or manage the amount of things you have on your to do list, I recommend reading This Year I Will by Tiffany Louise.
It’s a beautiful 52 page goal setting book, which gives tips and hints to help you create better goals for yourself.
A final recommendation from me is the Maniscripting Journal by Samantha Kozuch.
I’d never heard of the word Maniscripting before this, but it is truly remarkable. She teaches the technique of ‘Maniscripting’ in her online course but I preferred the journal itself, which guides you through it in real form (anything to get me away from a computer!)
I won’t spoil it for you, but get ready to ask yourself and answer some vital questions to get you into action mode! This link gets you 10% off the journal!
Get rid of distracting devices
Not all of life’s distractions can be removed (i.e. kids, pets, doorbells etc), but one thing which can be eliminated is technology. By and large, if there’s something important to be done, removing digital devices will help make it happen.
Use your willpower and remove your phone from the room. Turn it off and place it out of reach, so you’re not tempted to look at it.
Once you’ve completed the task in question, you can have your devices back! But not until you’ve done what you needed to do!
Meditate
Our final mind hack for today. Meditation works miracles. It improves focus and concentration, whilst calming the mind and body. If you’ve never meditated before, then start slow, with a short guided meditation. Have a Google or search on YouTube for some examples.
Alternatively, why not try silent meditation? It’s super simple. Grab a quiet moment for about 10 minutes where you’ll not be disturbed. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths in and out.
Then simply sit in silence with your eyes closed and allow whatever thoughts come into your mind to be there. Don’t fight them.
Simply be aware of them. You can also introduce an anchor word such as ‘Calm’ or ‘Relax’ to use as a whisper in the back of your mind if your mind jumps around too much. That’s it! You’ve meditated!
Three simple mind hacks to help get more stuff done. Now the question is, what’ll you get done today? If you’re not sure, read this.
